Bermuda shuts down its digital nomad visa

Bermuda is officially closing the doors on its digital nomad visa program. The "Work from Bermuda Certificate," launched in August 2020 during the pandemic, will stop accepting new applications as of February 28, 2025. The program was designed to attract remote workers to live and work on the island for up to a year—but now the government is shifting its focus.
For those already in Bermuda on this visa, nothing changes immediately. Current certificate holders can stay until their visas expire. After that, they’ll have 90 days to either leave the island or apply for another residency option—like a Standard Work Permit, a Residential Certificate, or Permission to Reside on an Annual Basis, if they meet the criteria.
The move is part of a broader change in Bermuda’s economic and housing strategy. Officials say the program helped boost the local economy during tough times, but now the focus is on ensuring more housing is available for Bermudians. The Ministry of Economy and Labour stated:
"We take this opportunity to thank all past and present certificate holders for choosing Bermuda as their temporary home away from home and contributing to the local economy. We sincerely hope you have enjoyed your experience living in Bermuda and will return to visit us in the future."
While the end of the Work from Bermuda Certificate closes one chapter, the island isn’t shutting itself off from new residents. Instead, the focus is shifting toward more permanent solutions—encouraging people who want to make Bermuda their long-term home to explore other residency paths.
