At Freaking Nomads, we understand the importance of protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we collect when you use our website and how we use and protect that information. By using our website FreakingNomads.com, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. Please also read our Terms of Service, which describe the rules for using Freaking Nomads.
Who we are
Freaking Nomads operates the website FreakingNomads.com. For the purposes of applicable data protection laws (including the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation where it applies), we act as the data controller of the personal information described in this Privacy Policy, unless we state otherwise (for example where a payment processor acts as an independent controller). You can contact us about privacy at info[at]freakingnomads.com.
Information We Collect
When you visit our website, we may collect certain types of information, including:
- Personal Information: We may collect your name, email address, and other contact information if you choose to provide it to us.
- Usage Information: We may collect information about how you use our website, such as the pages you visit and the links you click on.
- Device Information: We may collect information about the device you use to access our website, such as your IP address, browser type, and operating system.
Accounts, authentication, and email
If you create an account or sign in, we process identifiers such as your email address, name or display name where you provide them, and authentication-related data. Sign-in may be offered through third-party providers (for example Google OAuth). We use NextAuth-style session handling and may store session and account records in our systems (including our database). Transactional emails (such as magic links or service-related messages) may be sent via providers such as Resend. Please review your sign-in provider's privacy notice for how they process data on their side.
Payments and subscriptions
Paid features (such as Pro membership or certain workspace-related purchases) are processed by Stripe. Payment card details are collected and processed by Stripe according to Stripe's Privacy Policy. We typically receive limited information from Stripe (such as payment status, subscription identifiers, and partial billing details) to provide the service.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address and related subscription data may be processed by our newsletter provider (for example Beehiiv) in accordance with their terms and privacy notice.
Security and abuse prevention
Some forms may be protected using hCaptcha (or similar tools) to reduce spam and abuse. Those services may process technical signals from your device or browser. See hCaptcha's privacy information for details.
Error monitoring
We use Sentry (or similar services) to diagnose technical errors and improve reliability. Such tools may receive technical data when something goes wrong (for example device, browser, app state, and in some cases IP address or similar identifiers). See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
Search and discovery infrastructure
We may use third-party search or indexing services (for example Algolia or Typesense) to power discovery features. Depending on how a feature is built, queries or related metadata may be processed by those providers under their respective policies.
Analytics, on-site search, and related tools
We use Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) to measure how visitors use Freaking Nomads. This may include page views, general usage events, and on-site search activity. When you use search features on our website (for example the global search modal or search on listings such as places, workspaces, resources, communities, or the nomads directory), we may send your search queries to Google Analytics as part of standard analytics events, sometimes together with a label indicating which part of the site you searched. We use this information to understand what people look for and to improve the site. How Google processes data is described in Google's Privacy Policy.
We also use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with our pages (such as clicks and scrolling), and DataFast for product analytics. These services may use cookies or similar technologies. You can read more in Microsoft's privacy statement; refer to DataFast's documentation for their data practices.
Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)
The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a "device") by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.
First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, "Tags") may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser's cache. The "help" feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser's cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.
Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.
The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:
- IP Address
- Operating System type
- Operating System version
- Device Type
- Language of the website
- Web browser type
- Email (in hashed form)
Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor's referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.
If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance's AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.

Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK, and similar)
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we process personal information on one or more of the following bases: performance of a contract with you (for example providing accounts and features you request); legitimate interests (for example securing the site, understanding usage, improving the service, and analytics), balanced against your rights; consent, where we are required to ask for it (for example certain marketing cookies or optional communications, where applicable); and legal obligation where we must process data to comply with the law.
