Cyprus has officially opened applications for its long-anticipated Digital Nomad Visa, marking a big step in the country’s efforts to attract global remote workers. The new program is open to non-EU and non-European Economic Area (EEA) nationals who want to live in Cyprus while working remotely for companies or clients based abroad.

The visa targets remote professionals who rely on tech to do their jobs — whether freelancers, remote employees, or business owners. To qualify, applicants need to show a monthly net income of at least €3,500 after tax. If approved, they’ll be granted a one-year residence permit, with the option to renew for up to two more years.

Those staying in Cyprus for more than 183 days a year will be considered tax residents, unless they can prove they’re paying taxes elsewhere.

According to the Cypriot government, the visa is part of a broader plan to boost the local economy and establish Cyprus as a hub for digital services. The Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection said:

"The scheme is intended to strengthen Cyprus as a center for the provision of electronic services.”

The application process is available through the Migration Department's website. Applicants will need to provide proof of remote employment, income, a clean criminal record, valid health insurance, and other supporting documents. There’s a €70 fee for the residence permit, plus an additional €70 for first-time registration in the aliens registry. Applications can be submitted in person or through an authorized representative, and processing usually takes between five and seven weeks.
