Hey Freaking Nomads,

A while ago, I was on a call with a family member.

Normal catch-up. Until the classic: “But where do you actually live?”

You know that tone. Trying not to judge, but kind of judging.

I explained (again) that I travel most of the time.

Then came the usual: “But isn’t that unstable?” “Don’t you get tired?” "How long are you going to do this for?”

I used to hang up feeling a bit frustrated and, if I’m honest, kinda small.

And I think, as a woman especially, there’s an extra layer to this.

The expectation that we should want something more “stable.”

For a long time, I kept trying to explain myself better. It never worked. So I stopped.

I realised I didn’t need them to get it to choose it.

Now I just ask myself: does this life give me something I couldn’t get staying in one place?

For me, it does. Every time.

They still don’t fully get it. But it doesn’t shake me anymore.

If your family or friends don’t get it either, I see you. It’s hard. But you don’t need permission.

You can love them and still choose your path.

Both can be true.

Until next week, keep going!

Irene

🚀 Filter nomad destinations by visa!

Last week, we launched Places to help you figure out where to go next (without opening 20 tabs).

A few of you replied with the same thing: “Cool, but can I actually stay there?!”

So we added passport-based filtering.

You put in your passport once, and it shows you:

  • where you can go

  • visa requirements

  • digital nomad visa/remote work permit options

Something else feels off or missing? Tell us here, and let’s make the Freaking Nomads community even better for all ❤️
