Remote work from the Red Sea

Hey Freaking Nomads,

I’m writing this from the rooftop of a little guesthouse in Dahab, Egypt... And honestly, I didn’t expect to fall in love with this place the way I did!

If you read my last newsletter, you know I’ve been spending some time exploring different corners of Africa. After Morocco and Cape Verde, I knew I wanted to come back. There’s something about this continent that just pulls you in. But I didn’t expect a tiny town on the Red Sea to grab me the way Dahab has.

Dahab, Egypt

This place is wild in the best way. A mix of desert stillness and sea energy. Bedouin culture meets hippy vibes. It’s the kind of place where you’ll hear the call to prayer echo across the bay just as someone is pulling out their laptop to catch a call, or packing up to go freediving.

Working remotely here isn’t always smooth. The Wi-Fi can test your patience, but what you get in exchange is something I haven’t felt in a while: presence.

Dahab forces you to slow down. There’s no rush here, and weirdly, that made me more productive. Mornings by the sea, work sessions in open-air cafes, and evenings talking to strangers who quickly feel like old friends.

If you’re craving somewhere off the beaten nomad path, where your days feel a bit more analog and a lot more alive, consider Dahab. It might not have fancy coworking spaces, but it has something else: space to breathe, reflect, and be.

More soon: I’m planning to write a full digital nomad guide on Dahab. And if you’ve been here yourself, leave a review for other Freaking Nomads in our community hub.

Can’t wait to update you on the next stop on this African adventure. But for now, just know: if you’re feeling stuck or tired of the usual hubs, there’s a place waiting for you on the edge of the Sinai desert.

See you out there,

Irene

🗞️ What's new in the nomad world?

  • This remote Arctic village might just be Europe’s coolest (and coldest) nomad spot. Nyksund, a once-abandoned fishing village in Norway, is quietly becoming a nomad’s dream, complete with coworking spaces, wild landscapes, and Northern Lights. It’s remote. It’s rugged. And it might just be Europe’s most surprising spot to work from.

  • Prefer somewhere warmer with surf, too? While everyone’s still crowding into Playa or CDMX, San José del Cabo is quietly becoming Mexico’s next nomad hotspot with fiber internet, swimmable beaches, and a coworking scene that’s just getting started.

🧑‍💻 Nomad Resource of the Week

The other day, I was working from a little rooftop café in Dahab, and the glare on my screen was so bad I could barely see what I was typing. I kept shifting around, squinting, trying to find that one magic angle where I could actually get some work done. It wasn’t happening.

That’s when I remembered I had this SightPro Privacy + Anti-Glare Filter packed away. I slapped it on my laptop, and no more blinding reflections! And I could finally focus without feeling like the guy at the next table was reading my emails.

It’s super easy to attach (I used the slide-on tabs) and it also blocks out side views for privacy, which is great if you’re working in busy places. Just make sure you check your screen size.
