It isn’t the same all by ourselves
Hey Freaking Nomads,
I don't know if it ever happened to you, but in my first two years of travel, I felt that despite all the incredible places I visited, there was a part of me that was craving a deeper connection.
I used to think that the nomad life was all about solitary adventures and spontaneous escapes. I believed that true freedom meant wandering alone without any ties.
But after countless hours in quiet coworking spaces, unexpected chats in some random hostels, and those late-night conversations over a cheap drink, I realized something: what we really long for is community.
Not just the fleeting connections of chance encounters but real, lasting bonds with people who understand our struggles, our joys, and the unique journey we’re on.
For the longest time, I missed out on that because I was always chasing the next destination. I thought I had to keep moving to prove I was truly living the nomad life. But over time, I’ve learned that building a strong community isn’t about sacrificing freedom, but it’s actually about enhancing our experience on the road.
We have a unique power as digital nomads: to shape our journey not just through where we go, but through the people we meet along the way. And that’s why I’m especially excited to share a tiny bit of news that is very close to my heart, which is the launch of our newly refreshed Community Hub at community.freakingnomads.com.
Creating a dedicated space for Freaking Nomads has been a dream of mine for a long time. I always wanted a home for our community, a place where we could share our stories, upvote the digital nomad spots that resonate with us, discover upcoming events, and simply connect with one another and I'm so happy to see this coming to light. We coded and built this hub ourselves with limited budgets and a whole lot of passion, so it’s truly a platform built with us digital nomads in mind.
It’s still a work in progress, and we have big plans to add even more features to make it the best community hub out there. But here’s the thing—we need you to make it something that we can all truly find useful. Your feedback will be invaluable, which is why we’ve added a whole feedback section on the hub (with already a couple of interesting feature ideas shared by some of you). If there’s a feature you’d love to see or something that could make your experience better in your travels or while work remotely, please let us know. This is our space, and together, we can hopefully shape it into something extraordinary.
Thanks for reading as usual—and for being part of this incredible journey.
Until next week 👋
Luca
🗞️ What's new in the nomad world
- The Philippines is joining the nomad visa club. A new Digital Nomad Visa is on the table, offering remote workers a one-year stay (renewable for another) in the tropical paradise. To qualify, you’ll need proof of income from abroad, health insurance, and a clean criminal record.
- On the flip side, Costa Rica’s done playing nice with perpetual tourists. A new bill aims to stop visa runs to push long-term visitors toward legal residency options like the Digital Nomad Visa. Time to rethink that endless Costa Rica stay.
