Croatia has introduced significant updates to its digital nomad visa program, offering longer stays and new benefits to attract remote workers. The changes, implemented in April 2025, position the country as a more competitive destination for location-independent professionals.

Under the revised rules, the initial validity period for the Digital Nomad Residence Permit has increased from 12 to 18 months. Applicants can now extend their stay once, potentially totaling three years of legal residency. This represents a substantial upgrade from the previous 12-month visa with a single 6-month extension option.

The reforms also provide greater professional flexibility. Digital nomads may now register as freelancers or launch local businesses with minimal bureaucracy, requiring only a simple notification to authorities within five working days.

In a move expected to boost appeal among established professionals, the program now permits visa holders to bring immediate family members. This change addresses a key concern for many remote workers considering relocation.

The Ministry of the Interior developed these updates to help address domestic labor shortages while capitalizing on global remote work trends. With these changes, Croatia joins nations like Japan, Brazil, and Spain in actively courting digital nomads through specialized visa programs.
