Thailand officially launched its electronic visa (e-Visa) system on January 1, 2025, making it easier for foreign nationals worldwide to apply online through their official website, www.thaievisa.go.th.

The new e-Visa is available to travelers from all countries, allowing applicants to complete the entire process online without the need to visit an embassy or consulate. Applications involve filling out a simple online form, uploading the required documents, and paying fees electronically.

The system supports a range of visa categories, including those for tourism, business, and medical purposes. Once approved, applicants receive their e-Visa via email, which they can show upon arrival in Thailand.

Speaking at the launch event, titled “Kick-off THAI E-VISA: Apply, Anywhere, Anytime” Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, highlighted how this initiative is expected to encourage more travelers to choose Thailand as their destination. He stated:

“This new system will encourage more travelers to choose Thailand as their destination, contributing to a robust recovery in the tourism sector.”

Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), echoed this optimism:

“We believe this new system will significantly reduce processing times and enhance the overall travel experience for visitors.”

The e-Visa system was initially introduced as a pilot program in 2019, and it gradually expanded before being fully rolled out in January 2025.

Thailand’s government sees this upgrade as a key step in boosting tourism and hitting its target of 36.7 million visitors by the end of 2024.

To meet this target, Thailand also launched the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) in July 2024 to specifically attract digital nomads and remote workers. The DTV is valid for five years and allows stays of up to 180 days per entry, with the option to extend for another 180 days.

For more information or to apply, travelers can visit the official e-Visa website.
