How to stay safe on the go

Hey friends,

Irene here, soaking up the sun in Playa del Carmen, Mexico 🇲🇽 I hope 2024 is off to an epic start for you all!

Today, I want to chat about something we often overlook amid the excitement of travel: safety. As much as we love adventure, staying secure should be a priority, too.

Over the years as a female traveler, I've picked up some key tips for keeping safe on the road. Let me share them with you in hopes they help you adventure confidently (especially the ladies out there):

  1. Do Your Research - Get the inside scoop on destinations ahead of time, like neighborhoods to avoid or local customs to respect. Information is power!
  2. Trust Your Gut - If a place or person makes you uneasy, listen to your instinct. Head to a public spot or ask someone near you for assistance.
  3. Blend In - Leave flashy jewellery and designer clothes at home. Avoid drawing unnecessary attention and keep valuables concealed.
  4. Secure Your Belongings - Back up important documents digitally in case originals are lost or stolen. Only carry what you need when out and about.
  5. Have a Backup Plan - Know who to ping if things go sideways, like your embassy. And don't forget travel insurance for total peace of mind!

The goal is to be prepared, not paranoid. With some thoughtful precautions in place, you can focus on making magical memories instead of fretting over "what-ifs."

Hope these tips help you jet set safely in 2024 and drop me a line with your own best practices to stay safe while traveling (our inbox is open!). Let’s learn from one another 💜

Safe and happy travels!

Irene xx
