Taiwan set to extend digital nomad visa to two years
Taiwan plans to extend its digital nomad visa from six months to two years, making it even more attractive for remote workers worldwide.

Taiwan is introducing a series of policy reforms aimed at attracting high-level foreign professionals and digital nomads. At the heart of these initiatives are expanded visa categories designed to strengthen Taiwan’s position as a top destination for global talent.
In January 2025, Taiwan launched its Digital Nomad Visa, initially allowing stays of up to six months. Under the latest proposals, that stay could be extended to a maximum of two years.
The visa remains available to visa-exempt nationals who work remotely for companies based outside Taiwan. Applicants must meet specific requirements, including a proven track record of remote work, meeting defined income thresholds, providing proof of funds, and maintaining international health insurance.
Notably, visa holders will have access to local healthcare and banking services, although the program does not currently allow dependents to be sponsored.
At a recent legislative session, Taiwan’s Premier highlighted the government’s goal:
"We want to make Taiwan an even better place for foreign professionals to live and work."
The move aligns Taiwan with regional competitors like Japan and South Korea, which have also been rolling out digital nomad programs to draw in skilled workers.
