Want to stop procrastinating? Try this hack.
Hey Freaking Nomads,
Let's be real - procrastination sucks. Big time. Luckily, I've got a secret weapon for you. This truly changed the game for me: it's called "Eat That Frog!".
Recently, I re-read the amazing book "Eat That Frog!" by Brian Tracy (you might already have heard of it) and it has been a game-changer for me since I first read it a couple of years ago.
In a nutshell, the book it's all about tackling your most daunting tasks first thing in the morning - your metaphorical "frog."
As someone who thrives in the early hours (I usually wake up without an alarm around 7am), this concept resonated deeply with me.
Imagine waking up, brewing a strong cup of coffee, and diving straight into that complex task, personal project, or client pitch. By the time the rest of the world is stirring, you've already conquered your biggest challenge. The sense of accomplishment is incredible, and it sets a positive tone for the entire day.
"The hardest part of any important task is getting started on it in the first place. Once you actually begin work on a valuable task, you seem to be naturally motivated to continue." - from "Eat That Frog!"
This quote perfectly encapsulates the power of tackling your "frog" head-on. I've found that once I overcome the initial inertia, the momentum carries me through. Plus, with the biggest task out of the way, the rest of my day feels so much longer! I have the time to explore new places, do some yoga, or go for a walk.
As digital nomads, compared to other workers who might adopt this strategy, we have an extra advantage: time zones! Imagine waking up in Weligama conquering your "frog" while Europe sleeps, and then enjoying a leisurely afternoon surf session while your clients are just starting their day (true story!). Or picture yourself in Madeira, powering through your "frog" before the North American workday begins, leaving you ample time to explore the island's beautiful landscapes in the afternoon.
Of course, it's not always easy. Some mornings, the temptation to hit snooze or scroll through social media is overwhelming. But I've learned to push through, reminding myself of the freedom and flexibility that await me once my "frog" is devoured.
"The key to success is action, and the essential in action is perseverance." - from "Eat That Frog!"
As digital nomads, we have the incredible privilege of designing our own lives. But we also have the responsibility to manage our time effectively. The "Eat That Frog" method is another tool that you can add to your productivity toolbox to combat procrastination and maximize your productivity.
So, my fellow nomads, I challenge you to identify your "frog" and tackle it head-on tomorrow morning. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on how it went!
Have a great week ahead,
Luca
