Does Dubai (UAE) Have a Digital Nomad Visa?

Dubai Digital Nomad and Remote Work Visa: Overview
Dubai Virtual Work Residency Visa is a relatively new visa for digital nomads willing to work remotely while living in Dubai.
This one-year visa can be renewed upon reapplication if the applicant meets the visa requirements after one year.
Since the visa is still quite new, the requirements are often changing. For example, the most recent condition change was the minimum income. In 2022 it used to be USD 3500, while in 2023, it was increased to USD 5000.
As this visa was introduced not so long ago, prepare for the possibility that some government offices may not be familiar with this visa type.
Due to this visa type, major banks like ADCB or HSBC may also refuse to open a bank account and credit card applications.

- You need to be a remote worker employed by a company outside of the UAE
- You need to be able to submit a copy of a long-term contract (minimum one year)
- You need to make more than USD 5,000 a month

How to Apply for the Digital Nomad Visa for Dubai
You can apply for the Dubai Virtual Work Residency Visa from outside the UAE or while visiting Dubai as a tourist.
In both cases, you must have a valid UAE mobile phone number and address to proceed with your application. If this is your first time visiting Dubai, the easiest way is to get a 30-day or 90-day visa on arrival and then proceed with a Virtual Work Residency Visa application once you are in the country. To check your eligibility for the visa on arrival, check the Visit Dubai website.
Once you are in Dubai and have a valid phone number and a temporary address, submit your online application for the virtual work ENTRY PERMIT (not visa) on the GDRFAD website, pay application fees, and wait for the approval.
You will receive an email notification of approval. If your entry permit is not approved, you will receive a request to submit additional documents. In case of any questions or disputes, we recommend you to go to Jafiliya Immigration Office located near Al Jafiliya metro station in Dubai.
Once your entry permit is approved, you must apply for the status change. By far the easiest way to do this is to go to your nearest AMER center. To check the location of the AMER center near you, download the AMER app for iPhone or AMER app for Android. The AMER center managers will help you change the status of your entry permit and create a Virtual Work Residency Visa application for you on the spot.
During the visa application process, you will be asked to undergo a health check that includes a blood test and an X-ray of your chest. This can be done the same day; results are usually available within 24 hours. The AMER center managers will make a reservation for you in one of the nearest Visa Medical Centers, also called Medical Fitness Centers.
As soon as your test results indicate that you do not have tuberculosis or AIDS, you will receive an email with your residency document.
Your next step is to apply for an Emirates ID card. This can be done at the same AMER center. The AMER staff will create an application for you and ask you to provide a valid address for the card delivery. You will also need to do a biometrics scan - a mandatory procedure for everyone applying for the Emirates ID card.
The biometrics is done by appointment only in one of the centers for the ID card services, like Al Ghazal Customer Happiness Center. The AMER staff will book the time slot and provide you with all the necessary instructions. Once this step is completed, you must wait for your Emirates ID card to be ready, which can take up to two weeks. You can check the status of your Emirates ID on the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security website.
